“I’m not backing down from some Poin-Dexter! If this Poin-Dexter wins, he’ll make me break his legs!” — Mad Maxx Millstone

Usually, when I invent silly quips for my little characters, I like to anchor them at least a bit in sourced reality. Regarding Mad Maxx, for example, Miller did say in an interview that a 2 year old’s broken collarbone was no big deal because kids that age break their collarbones all the time. So I think Mad Maxx lines on the topic are rooted.

In this case, though, I don’t need a quote. I’m absolutely certain that’s how Miller thinks. He’s never evolved from his school yard bully phase, where taunts are conflated with templates. I’m sure he’s always seen “poindexters” (brainy but awkward, physically inept kids) as natural victims, meat, and fair game. Further, his entire party thinks it’s proper to delegitimize people merely based on their names.

So yes, I’m certain that when Miller hears his opponent is named Poindexter, he’s psychologically encumbered to conceive of him as a poindexter and react accordingly, regardless the facts of the matter. After all, he’s a big, strong, manly guy who can easily beat up a freakin’ poindexter.

Which is probably to the Dems’ advantage in this district: I’ve read that Brian Poindexter’s an appealing, charismatic, and dynamic politician.

I invented that quote based on Miller’s overt mind-set.

“Everyone knows kids that age break their collarbones all the time. Usually it’s them breaking their own collarbones for fun! The doctors even call it ‘Phantom Handprint Syndrome’! If you doubt that’s true, you’ll force me to break your legs!” — Mad Maxx Millstone
