Help Fund the Angry Democrats
The Angry Democrats is reader-funded on purpose. There is no money from political parties or big corporations. Just two former candidates for Congress, the receipts, and you.
Who’s Asking
Start with the result. Donald Trump is in the White House. Again. The Democratic Party that was supposed to prevent it is demoralized, divided, and unaccountable. Look at the evidence and the answer to how that happened becomes pretty clear.
A class of insiders beholden to corporate interests runs the party for its own benefit. They shut out newcomers who threaten the arrangement. They clear primary fields of good Democrats stepping up to make this country better before voters ever get a say. They pit Democrats against each other so the people already in power keep it. The promises to voters go undelivered, the winnable elections get lost, and the country pays the price in Trump.
We both know this from the inside. And we are sick and tired of it.
Matt Diemer is a two-time Democratic congressional candidate, entrepreneur, podcaster, and the original Angry Democrat. Laura Rodriguez-Carbone is former federal public servant, former Congressional candidate, and three term elected member of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Central and Executive Committees.
We’re not here to hand you outrage, but we are here to keep you informed, help you see the angles, and to push the party to do better.
Why This Costs Money
Accountability reporting is the one kind of journalism the system is built to prevent.
Records requests cost money. Time costs money. Exposing the angles the entire party would prefer stayed quiet costs most of all, because the moment you take a party check, you answer to the people who wrote it. We don’t want to answer to them. We want to answer to you.
That is the whole deal. Your money is the only thing that keeps this reporting independent and ensures you have the most up-to-date analysis and information as we work to push the party forward.
What Your Money Does
Your money does three things at once.
It keeps the work independent.
It funds the investigations.
It grows the reach. It puts more of these stories in front of more people, in more places, and in the formats that actually travel.
The Ask
Every dollar funds a specific piece of independent reporting. Here is what that looks like.
$10 a month keeps our investigations online. A $30 donation covers things like records requests and fees, and database access we need to keep bringing you the facts behind our stories. $250 one time funds a full investigation from first tip to published, receipts included.
Monthly support does the most, because it lets us commit to reporting that takes weeks to get right instead of chasing whatever pays this week. If monthly is not for you, a one-time gift still carries a story from idea to publication.
WHAT WE WILL NEVER DO WITH IT
We know exactly what you are tired of, because we are tired of it too.
We will never flood your inbox with fake deadlines. We will never tell you the republic ends at midnight unless you chip in five dollars. We will never sell your email, rent your outrage, or dress up a nag as an emergency. We built this to get away from that, and we are not going to become it. Give anything you can to help us fund truly independent coverage of where the Democratic Party is, where its going, and who it should answer to.
Stay Angry.
